Why Walkability Matters?

It is not just about convenience.

Walkability shapes how we connect with our neighborhoods and the world around us. It fosters healthier lifestyles, reduces our environmental impact, and brings the essentials of daily life closer to home. When cities prioritize people over cars, streets become places for connection, local businesses thrive, and green spaces flourish.

A walkable city concept

How Does This Work?

The Walkability Score Calculator evaluates how pedestrian-friendly an area is by analyzing selected features within a 1,200-meter radius, the distance an average person walks in 15 minutes. After entering an address, the calculator identifies nearby amenities such as schools, shops, offices and healthcare services, calculates the percentage of streets reserved for pedestrians, measures the area of parks and green spaces, and counts the public transport stops.

These factors are combined into a total score, with proximity to amenities weighted at 40%, walkable streets at 30%, and green spaces and public transport each at 15%, providing an indication of the area’s walkability.
